Day 4 - Sea Animals and Furry Friends

Our fourth day in Western Australia was all about animals. Animals in the ocean, and furry and famous Aussie animals on the land.

The morning was about the sea. We headed to the biggest aquarium in WA. It was called AQWA which was a very clever name because it sounded like aqua which means water.

We got to see many amazing sea creatures such as octopi, sharks, sea turtles, jellyfish, starfish, crabs, lobsters, seahorses and a countless amount of fascinating fish. We even saw salt water crocodiles. We encountered some of the most venomous creatures on earth such as the blue ringed octopus and the stone fish. Be very careful of these creatures and avoid them!

After fish and chips with salad for lunch we headed to Caversham Wildlife Park. We got to meet Bluey the koala who is named after the famous Aussie cartoon about a blue dog. We all got to have photos with Bluey and got to give her a pat. Her fur was so soft!

Then, we got to have a photo with a wombat called Judy. We think the wombat fell asleep during our meeting. But Judy was cute when she was both awake and asleep.

We explored the wildlife park and saw many other animals including kangaroos and their smaller cousins, wallabies. We got to pat and feed them. We saw mother kangaroos with babies in their pouch. They are called joeys. We also got to saw young kangaroos drinking milk from their mum.

Another interesting part was the farm yard animals. We got to see a working dog “round up” a herd of sheep. We saw how to crack a whip. We got to see how sheep’s wool is shorn. We even all got to milk a cow! We also visited an open area where many farmyard animals lived such as turkeys, cows, chickens and goats. In fact, one big goat blocked the entrance door! We tried to gently open the gate and sneak through. He still didn’t move. The zoo keepers told us that he does this to get more pats from people. It was a funny moment.

To end the day we had a delicious Chinese dinner. It reminded us of our home, Hong Kong.

The day was action packed and full of amazing animal memories!
