Day 2 - School Visit and the Perth Mint

Our first morning in Australia was sunny with bright blue skies. After arriving very early in the morning, we were all a bit tired. But we enjoyed a lovely buffet breakfast at our hotel in the centre of Perth. We were excited to meet our new friends at Providence Christian College.

We arrived at Providence Christian College at the start of the school day. We were surprised about how different the school campus was to our school. Our school is tall and high but this school is wide and all the buildings were only one or two floors high. There is a lot of grass fields for children to play on. Students can also enjoy lots of playground equipment. The school even had a slide from their 1st floor classrooms to the ground floor. Our students were excited to use it! Our teachers used it too. Even our Principal, Ms Ng!

During our two days at Providence Christian College we split into smaller groups of four students and joined an Australian class and experienced their school life. It was amazing how quickly our students became such fast friends with their Aussie counterparts.

After our first day of Australian school-life we visited the Perth Mint. It’s a special place where they make coins and bars out of gold. Our tour guide told us about the history of the gold rush and interesting facts about gold.

For dinner we had cheese burgers, fries and lemonade or apple juice at Ivy and Jack restaurant. It was a lovely restaurant with a lot of space for us to relax and chat about our experiences at the Australian school.

Our final adventure for the day was walking to a supermarket called Woolworths, which Australians nickname “Woolies”. We bought lots of yummy food that we can take home to Hong Kong or that we can snack on during our trip. Our students bought snacks as souvenirs for their families and classmates.

Our groups had final meeting with their teacher before heading to bed. We worked on completing our booklets and planned what to do the next day.

Our first day in Australia was amazing. We were a little bit tired but the warmth of our host school energised us and left us excited to see them again tomorrow. Everyone was happy to go to sleep in our comfy beds.
